I'm rarely surprised when it comes to Patti. Afterall, our anniversary is next month and it will be our 28th. So we know each other purty well, which keeps any major surprises to a mininum.
So imagine how surprised I was to wake up a few days ago to see a puppy!
A baby mimi-dachshund, to be exact.
Same colors as Oscar was. And imagine how much more surprised I was to see a second mini-dachsund!! This one was older.
The pup is a female and Patti has named her Little Miss. The other is a two year old male, who I christened "Skully." Apparently, the pup was on sale and Skully was thrown in (not literally!) for free, since he's older and very skittish. He lived in a barn and was used for breeding, but had very little human contact. He's already getting over the skittish part, however, and both dogs are already learning to be house-broken.
While they are learning, (Skully hasn't had any accidents for a day) Patti and I have honed our dung-fu skills. We limber up with tai-pee, before unleashing our awesome abilities on the newspaper covered battleground.
We're still lookin' for our camera, but hope to post some pics soon. Incidently, puppies are much more exhausting than I recall. Do they ever sleep more than an hour at a time? You know how cats can get on catnip? Well, picture the puppy reacting the same way (looney-tunes, man!). Is there such a thing as dog nip? Or is Skully sr. feedin' it grog?
Oh, and we don't want Cammilu to feel left out. Pay no attention to that bum she found.

New family members of the doggie persuasion! What fun. Looking forward to some pics of them - find that camera soon, will ya?
Does that mean you're now a three-dog-house?
:D
I learned quickly that enzymatic cleaners are a puppy-owner's other best friend.
Coongrats - I hope they'll let you sleep through the night in short order!
Lishen now, Ben:
I mos'ly don't come snoopin 'round this way, but I t'ought I ought'a give yez a heads up. Glad youse is havin' fun wit Skully the Pup, but in the mean time the other Skully- you know- that crusty ol' parrot is in some trouble. I been doin' what I can, but it don't look good right now. I hear that jwm character might know somethin'...
Bogie
Got 'em, Ximeze!
Aye, three dog house, and three dog night. :^)
Julie-
It's amazing how well those enzymatic cleaners work. :^)
Thanks. A friend suggested putting them in a doggie crate when sleeping. Fortunately, we have one.
It will be difficult to ignore the puppy cries though...ahem! For Patti that is.
Hey Bogie-
Thanks for stoppin' by. I'm gonna mozy on over to JWM's place right now. He always knows sumpin'! :^)
Yes, we are a three dog family and it's very neat!! We will always miss Oscar (Our "Little Moe" was our first mini Dachshund and he got us hooked. He passed away a year ago next month.) but I believe we will see our furry friends in Heaven. After all, Jesus rides a white horse; there is also the lion and the lamb.
Skully's Wench
When I was girl we raised mini black-and-tans just like Little Miss. Yay for puppies!
:o)
"Miss Lilly" and I applaud the wise wench known as Patti. Guys & dolls w/o dogs are miserable.
No offense to cat and parrot owners ;-)
Thanks Skully's Wench!
BTW, Skully has taken an...excursion to L.A. Not to worry though, JWM found him. :^)
L.A. Confidential: Avoiding the LAPD.
Hi Joan!
Wow, that must've been fun (and a lot of work)! Patti said there was a pack of mini-dacshunds runnin' around this barn where she got Skully and Little Miss. :^)
A pack!
Hi QP!
I'm glad Miss Lilly approves. I bet she's glad she don't have a pup bitin' her ears and tail, although I'm sure she would be a great mommy. Skully bears the brunt of Little Miss' bouts of tazmanian devil impersonations, but he's cool with it. :^)
Ahh, Ben …nuthin like a new leash on life, they say.
Shortly after we ask, who’s walking who?
Congrats to all of yous!
Ooooooo they're so cute! Good thing for them that from here they're safely 2D, otherwise they'd be subject to the Deadly Kissie-Kissie Attack. Then I'd have some serious 'splainin to do to Beaky 'bout how them telltale puppy-nip-marks got on my nose.
How's Cammilu taking the newbies?
One good weiner dog deserves another. Patti = one wise woman.
The puppies are adorable Ben, hope they will bring much joy tou you and Pattie.
And, I hope they will leave Skully wooden leg alone. You now how dogs run after sticks... Maybe best for him to stay in L.A. until you have trained them some :)

Ben,
Congratulations on the addition to your family!
I grew up with Dachshunds my whole life -- 5 so far. We had one black and tan -- he had a pathological hatred for motorcycles and vacuum cleaners.
Thanks Rick!
Good point about the walkin', lol!
Especially with our terrier. She's a real handful when she see's a deer (or anything else, for that matter).
Hi Ximeze!
Cammilu was curious, then a bit jealous, but now she plays with the pup, and gets along fine with Skully.
She adjusted faster than I thought she would. :^)
Tell Beaky hi for me.
Hi Dojo-
Ha ha! You got that right. I believe it was President Reagan who said (I'm probably paraphrasing) "The best way to get over a dog's death is to get another soon."
Or something to that effect. Good advice!
Hi Johan!
Hee hee! Yes, I think you're right, I definitely keep Skully Sr. away from the dogs, particularly Little Miss, who is biting everything in sight.
They sure do bring much joy (and work) but we have a lot of fun. :^)
Welcome, Andrew!
And thanks! Our last dachsi used to attack the vacuum also, ha ha!
He would try everything to "kill" it, in a hit n' run fashion.
Unfortunately, I don't have a motorcycle...yet. Sure wouldn't mind a Harley though. :^)
Skully's Wench knows a thing or two about shaking things up a bit. Two little hotdogs full of love and fun. Makes the days shorter and the naps most welcome.
The pics are great. Real Kodak moments. Brought a smile to this old curmudgeon. My best wishes to the expanding Conrad clan.
Hi Jim!
Thank you! It's almost like havin' little kids again, except they don't go to school. And they have tails. :^)
Patti really outdid herself this anniversary (bit early, but why wait?). Now what am I gonna come up with? Maybe I should have Skully make the plans, ha ha.
It's good to see you my friend.
My best regards to your wonderful wife and family.
Ben,
One day my mother opened the front door as a motorcycle was passing by. Our little guy took off after it. He actually managed to keep up with the motorcyle for a while, running next to the bike, barking his head off the whole way.
The rider was totally stunned. I thought he was going to fall off the bike, but fortunately he didn't. Eventually he hit the gas and that was the end. But for a while, it was one heck of a site!
(oops, meant "one heck of a sight").
Mornin' Ben - I love the pictures! Obviously, I should have popped back sooner. They are so cute :D
Congratulations, Ben and Patti. They're very cute ... kind of makes me want one to go with my yard dog.
Andrew-
That's hilarious! Ha ha! I could imagine the shock on the motorcycle riders face.
Julie-
Glad you saw 'em. They are hard to resist. I'm glad Patti didn't bring the whole pack home.
Hi Mushroom!
They do go well with yard dogs. But they get cold easily, however, they can stand the cold long enough to do there business in the wintertime. At least up here, where it's rarely below 20, and rarer still for single digit weather. Your winters are normally much colder, so you would need to buy it a coat or make one just to take it outside.
